A few more quick updates - I put up a newer photo of my
family, and repaired some bad links on the Home page.

Back again for a few updates. I changed most of the pages to use a SSI
feature
called an "include file".
Saves me from having to retype the navigation table
at the bottom of each page.

Well, it seems like I do a large batch of updates about once a year. We changed ISPs, so our email addresses changed again. I've been updating mailto links to reflect the new address, but I might have missed one or two. I'll keep looking and correcting, I guess.
I also found a counter that works and set it up for the home
page.
It isn't very sophisticated, so it updates each time the page is
reloaded, but it's better than nothing, and it's free!

Another major overhaul! I changed hosting again - Earthlink
was fine, but it cost $15 a month for a mess of services that I didn't
use. I've been using 1 Dollar Hosting ( http://www.1dollarhosting.com/)
for another site and had good luck with them, so I decided to move amdor.net there. Bear
with me as I
update links and content. Also, I'm using Composer, the HTML editor
that is part of Mozilla.
It
appears to be pretty much the same as the Netscape version that I've
used in the past.

Talk about an update!
Maria and I welcomed two new Amdors to our brood...check babies.shtml for some early photos.
Other than that, the site has been fairly static for a
while...guess I need to get back to it.

Wow...after no updates for a year or so, I've been back to the
site twice in the same week! I've been programming some Server
Side Includes (SSI) tags to automatically update the 'last
modified' indicators on various pages. The downside is now having to go
thru the various pages on the site and update file names to the
'.shtml' extension. If I was as good at Perl
as I'd like to be, I could script it...guess it's time to learn a
little
more.

It's been about a year since the last updates. I've
registered a domain, (obviously www.amdor.net,if
you are reading this!), and am working on moving all of my site
contents
from the radiks.net server to the hosting server at earthlink.net. I'm
also maintaining a couple of sites for organizations I am part
of: http://www.k0swi.org
and http://www.amdor.net/mars.
As
I've gotten more involved in other stuff I've softened my stand on HTML
editors. I'm working with Netscape
Communicator and
having pretty good luck with it. The finished product is still a
little tough to read in an ASCII editor, but the WYSIWYG interface
makes
it a lot easier to make page updates. Life goes on...

Time for a massive overhaul... A bunch of info has changed, so
I'll be updating all of the pages. I'll be removing a number of links
that are dead or not relevant any more, probably change the backgrounds
on some pages, and generally repair the damage that a certain HTML
editor that is part of a certain browser has caused. WYSIWYG HTML
editors may be fine for some but I still prefer to code my web pages
with a text editor. For the record, in Windows I use Notepad. On my
FreeBSD and Linux boxes I normally use 'ee' but I do work with 'vi' a
little just to stay familiar with it, kinda like 'edlin' on my old
MS-DOS machines. Most of my *nix machines have 'emacs' installed, but
it
takes too long to read the tutorial to figure out what I want to do.
Maybe somedayI'll learn 'emacs' well enough to use it comfortably, but
not right now!

Wow! Has it been that long since I updated? I guess so...unfortunately the web pages have taken a back seat to family time, home repair, the job and SLEEP!
I have removed some outdated links, added some more commentary on some of the pages and generally touched up. I'm working on getting access to a scanner to bring some photos into some of the pages. Maybe Santa Claus will be good to me at Christmas!

Updated the info on the 1999 Deloit Swap Meet! Started working on an Old Tractor page.

This was a major overhaul...I changed ISPs after moving to Council Bluffs. INS was great, but it was a long distance call from Council Bluffs to Des Moines, so I set up an account with Radiks Internet Access in Omaha. I spent most of today updating links and moving files to my new ISP. I think I got all of the links changed, but if you run into one that still refers to INS, let me know.

Maintenance time again...changed the Deloit Ham Swap page now that the swap is over.
January 18, 1998
Time for some updates! Mostly I am cleaning up link rot...adding a few new links and a page for my fire activities.
September 7, 1997
I recoded the pages a little so that Internet Explorer can display them properly. I still can't get the graphics to appear the same on IE as they do on Navigator, but it may just be my computer. I use Navigator 3.0x and prefer it, so that's what I optimize my pages for.
September 1, 1997
It's been a while since I updated anything. I have revised some links to avoid the dreaded "Link Rot". If you ever run across a link on one of my pages that doesn't work, please let me know.
March 16, 1997
I revamped the navigation bar at the bottom of each major page to a table. I have been experimenting with different layouts and designs for the navigation bar, and this one looks the neatest of all of the ones I tried. I also had a chance to work with tables, and kinda figure out how to program them in HTML.

I decided to add a "What's New" section, partly to let visitors quickly see what had changed recently, but also to allow me to chronicle the things that I have done to the pages. It's sort of a journal of my experiments with Web publishing. Check here to see if anything major has changed since your last visit. Changes this time around include:

In the last two weeks, I have learned so much about HTML that my thoughts have tags. The page has grown considerably. With the addition of the thumbnail graphics to the links, it has begun to load slowly. In the interest of efficient online time utilization, I have split the original page into several pages. Each section of links now has its own page. I have received nice comments from people who are a lot more familiar with web publishing than I am, so I think I am headed in the right direction. Who knows where it will go from here?

This is my first stab at creating a web page and working with HTML. It's nothing fancy right now, but keep checking back. As I get braver, it may get more interesting! Please let me know what you think of my efforts.
